The orphans and widows properties work in the same way as in a Desktop Publishing package. They control the minimum number of lines of a paragraph that can appear at the top and bottom of the page. The orphans property specifies the minimum number of lines of a paragraph that must be left at the bottom of a page. The widows property specifies the minimum number of lines of a paragraph that must be left at the top of a page. If you don’t set these properties, the number of lines is two (for widows and orphans). This is probably OK. You wouldn’t want a single line left on its own at the top or bottom of a page. |
