Lycos is one of the oldest search engines and it list sites in two main ways: the search engine and an associated directory. It gets search results from Direct Hit and a directory listing from Open Directory. Owns HotBot.

You can choose to search just UK sites or the worldwide sites.

If you do a search and feel that have too many results, you might want to narrow down the set of matches you've already generated. Lycos make this easy through a search within feature. Enter the new text in the box at the bottom of the results page and check the “Search these Results” checkbox.
