The pitch-range property allows you to manage the range of inflection. Few spoken voices use a single frequency. Instead, most languages create meaning and emphasis by varying the pitch and inflection of the voice. The sound ranges above and below the average pitch as inflection and emotion alter the spoken words. Excited or emotional speakers range far above and below average pitch while calm speakers tend to be more consistent with a smaller pitch range. This property specifies the degree of variation from the average pitch (roughly 120Hz for a male voice and 210Hz for a female voice) of the voice you use. You can enter a number between 0 and 100. Zero is a monotone and 50 is normal. p {pitch-range: 50} A voice with a small pitch-range will be a monotone; a voice with high pitch range will sound very animated. Since the effect of pitch range will vary based upon the voice you choose, you should experiment with this property if you intend to alter the default pitch range. |
