background

You will probably use background properties frequently in your style sheets, so the W3C specifies (and Internet Explorer supports) a shortcut notation. Instead of setting the properties separately, you can combine them into one property called background.

You can specify the properties in any order (unlike the font property). But be aware that if you don’t supply values for all the properties, your browser uses the default values for the properties.

One bonus from grouping background properties: your pages work on more browsers not less. Netscape didn’t (doesn’t?) support all the individual background properties but did support them if you group them together.
