4.1 Clearly identify changes in the natural language

If there are passages of text on a page that are in a different language to the main language, you should mark the change. Add the appropriate language attribute to the text. For example:

When you mark up natural language changes in a document, speech synthesizers and Braille devices can automatically switch to the new language, making the document more accessible to multilingual users.

The language changes are also useful for:

• Search engines that find key words and identify documents in a desired language
• Automated translators that read the contents of a page and translate it into another language
