3.1 Use markup rather than images

Use markup (and style sheets) where possible rather than images for the following reasons:

• Text may be magnified or interpreted as speech or Braille
• Search engines can use text information

Use mark-up to display symbols, such as currency symbols, mathematical or scientific notation.

Do not use bitmapped images to represent text; instead, use style sheets.
